Leading manufacturer Uniwipe has launched its Bio Clinical wipes, a new, innovative and eco-concious product that can eliminate harmful bacteria and viruses with 100% biodegradable properties.
Designed to prevent cross-contamination and the spread of infection, the wipes are ideal for medical environments, food manufacturing facilities, offices and educational buildings.
Initial research and development of the product were in response to the global concern about single-use plastics. With this in mind, Uniwipe’s in-house manufacturing and technical teams developed Bio Clinical wipes to protect people from germs, help save lives, and limit environmental damage.
The wipes are made with 100% biodegradable chemicals and plant-based fibres and have also been tested to EN14476 and EN16615 standards, which means they’re effective to the highest levels of bacteria, viruses and yeast.
Managing director of Uniwipe, Edward Rabey said: “As the manufacturer of our own products, we’re in a unique position when it comes to innovation and our sustainability journey. We’re always looking for new ways to improve and reduce our impact on the planet and have some big goals within this area.
“By creating a product like this, we are supporting the transition into a more sustainable future. Wipes remain a requirement for many sectors due to their unique ability to eliminate cross-contamination as using other cleaning methods can allow bacteria and viruses to spread from one surface to another. For the medical sector, in particular, wipes are ideally placed to kill harmful bacteria which is then disposed of with the wipe itself.”
In optimal conditions, the Bio Clinical wipes will break down within a six-month period.
Edward added: “We’re working on turning as many of our products as possible to biodegradable fabrics and we also aim to have reduced waste per pack by 40% by 2026.
“Throughout the industry, packaging needs to be considered more. Tubs are not ideal as the wipes are on a continuous roll with perforations, so users can end up using more of the product than needed and once the lid is opened, the product often dries out.
“Our specially designed packs have moisture-locking lids and keep the packs wet even with the lid left open and are z-folded to dispense one wipe at a time. This makes the product more cost-effective and produces less waste. ”
The Bio Clinical wipes fit into the Yellow Zone of the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) colour-coded cleaning system. This means they’re designed for high-infection-risk areas.
Using a super-soft fabric, the wipes are alcohol-free, gentle on surfaces and have been dermatologically tested to ensure they are safe on skin.
Uniwipe was founded to produce the next generation of wipes and provide the highest standards of hygiene to homes, workplaces and people.
